New Found Palm Tree in Madagascar

Just learned from CNN that a self-destructing palm tree is discovered in Madagascar:

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/01/16/madagascar.palm.tree.ap/index.html

It says this palm tree flowers every 100 years and then dies.  This reminds me of the saying that bamboos don't flower, when they do, they die.

Scientists can't explain this phenomenon, they can only guess.

This palm tree is called giant because it can grow up to 66 feet high... that's about 7 stories high.  I hope it does not produce any coconuts.
